"Snow Day"

Inspired by "24 Hour Snow Day," an amazing time-lapse video created by my friend and colleague, Keith Lucas. It doesn't do it justice, I'm afraid. Watch the video, linked above. You won't regret it.

The still and the quiet,
the cold and the wind;
snow falling like paint
dripping from the brush,
covering the landscape
with a quiet hush.
The sun like a flashlight
shining through the dark;
grey growing blacker,
welcoming the night.
Flickers in the distance,
the town settling in,
neighbors’ houses lighting up,
seeming like friends.
Peaceful now, and silent,
the moon makes its trek;
the streets are all empty
as lucky people slumber,
warm and cozy in their beds
with pillows or their lovers.
A backlit stage, the sun appears
with the glory of the light
reflections on the shiny paint
that was left overnight
Deceptive warmth shining,
waking up the world;
nature’s beauty covering,
a cold blanket unfurled.
