Saturday Six-Pack

Cheers, people!  Here's your Saturday Six-Pack, the first one ever from the new-found freedom and ease of the iPhone Blogger app.

One:  This was the final week of summer break for me.  I know, I know...some poor slobs have worked all summer, and I shouldn't complain.  I'm thankful I had the time off, even though I wasn't very productive.  I will also be thankful for the structure and routine going back to work will give me, at least initially.  I have grand plans for lunch menus and crockpot dinners, because STUFF is about to get hectic.  I will miss my days with the boy more than anything, because even when we are just couch potatoes watching TV or reading side-by-side, being with him is the best thing in my life.

Two:  My routine is obviously going to need some adjustment.  I suppose I'll have to go to sleep sometime before 2 a.m. and won't have the luxury of spending the first hour of my day with coffee and social media.  I might have to actually wear clothes other than pajamas or sweatpants all day, and my feet will have to get used to shoes again. Those fortunate people whose phones I blow up with texts all day can go back to enjoying relative peace and quiet (although there's always time to text).

Three:  We inadvertently, but pleasantly, filled the last week with a lot of fun stuff, including an excellent night of beer and trivia at a local brewery with our oldest (and most competitive)  friends.  Our schedules don't allow frequent nights like this, but I really want to make a point to see them more often, because there's no fun like the fun one has with the people you've known the longest.  And we kicked ass!

Four:  We also spent some time with new friends this week.  Anyone remember that old Girl Scout song that goes, "Make new friends, but keep the old..."?  Anyway, it's a good concept.  I've never been one to have a large circle of casual friends; instead, I'd prefer to have a smaller group of great friends.  But there is something to be said for widening circles and expanding comfort zones as well, and I'm enjoying getting to know new people.  Wait, who said that?

Five: In the spirit of new things and branching out, I am cautiously optimistic about the opportunities (challenges) that the new school year is going to bring.  Last year didn't end on such a positive note, and I have no real reason to think that this one will be better, but I'm hopeful.  Check back in a few weeks for a dose of reality.

Six: I need to go shopping.  It's not my favorite thing to do, unless I can do it quickly and painlessly.  I don't like to browse, I can't stand stores themselves, and, of course, my eyes are bigger than my purse.  But I'm in desperate need of some essentials before school starts.  Back to school shopping and buying school supplies used to be one of my favorite things when I was a kid...there's something to be said for fresh starts and new notebooks and such.  I'm excited about new clothes for the boy, whose summer growth spurt has left him wearing super hero belly shirts...not a good look for anyone, really.  He, of course, couldn't care less, so we'll both go, kicking and screaming, into the land of retail hell.

Happy Saturday!  Bottoms Up!
